Reccomendations for a good 3 wood?

My fiance has gotten into golfing alot over the past few months. He has been purchasing and upgrading his clubs as he goes, but I noticed he doesn't have any woods and I would like to get that for him as a birthday gift. I apologize in advance if anything I say is off, I no nothing about golf so please forgive me! I've spoken to my dad about these clubs, and all I was able to get out of the conversation was that all my fiance really needs is a 3 wood and that I should look into a hybrid one. I thought that would help me out alot, but boy was I wrong! Basically I am just looking for recommendations. What do you use and how do you like it? Also, what is "loft"? Which is better, graphite shaft or steel? And how do you know what flex is right for you?

I know it's a personal thing and I should let him pick it out, I just would really like to try to pick a good one out and surprise him first. If he doesn't like it then he can choose a different one.

  1. the taylormade r7 3 wood is probably your best bet for a new golfer.  this club will be on the pricier side, but it is worth it.  your fiance will love it, i am sure.  another choice that is possible for a 3 wood is getting the same brand, and model as the driver he has, but remember not to buy him the driver

  2. Most golfers like to have the woods, driver, 3 and 5 woods from the same company.  If he has replaced his driver, he would probably like a 3 from the same company.  For woods, graphite shafts are preferred and most golfers, especially newbies need regular shaft.

The hybrid you mentioned is meant to replace his 2-4 irons.  They are easier to hit than irons.

If price is an issue, you can get quality used drivers and irons from Callaway used golf equipment.

Brand name in golf is important to most guys,  Callaway, Nike, and Taylormade are probably most named drivers.

When all else fails, gift card will work at pro shops or super stores like *****.

  3. have him find it and then tell him you guys dont have enough for it and then buy it for him

  4. nike 3 wood =D

  5. Take him out with you to lunch, and stop by the store to go and get his club. this will make the surprise as good as the purchase, because it is failsafe. Graphite is better though. I bought a 15* Nike Sumo three wood and love it. It flys straight and far.

  6. Cleveland launcher, it is the most forgiving 3 wood I have used.  It has a regular graphite shaft and is just a really easy club to hit.

  7. Taylormade makes the best woods and hybrids. I would recommend either the Burner three hybrid or any one of their woods.

  8. I would recommend getting him a hybrid club. The hybrids are much easier to hit than fairway woods and he'll be able to hit more shots with it. Also hybrids are easier to hit out of the rough and allow you to hit the ball higher.

As for the type of hybrid...I would go with a 18 degree loft and a graphite stiff shaft for him...graphite allows for more forgiveness and the stiff shaft is good if he has a fast swing speed.

When talking about brands...Adams, Nike, and Taylor Made make the best hybrids...it all depends on what you want to spend. I play with Adams hybrids and I love them. Each of their hybrids sell for about $150 a piece.

  9. Get a Titleist 907 15* 3- wood and a 19* 3 iron taylormade burner rescue  club I have both and it is comfortable having 2 safe options off the tee

  10. Go to d**k's Sporting Goods...

    Buy this one...

Keep the receipt...if it's wrong he can take it back and exchange it.

    Good Luck!
