Hi I'm getting a

Towing Receiver Hitch w/Converter (Class II) on a vehicle tomorrow. There area few things that i use that need a class 3 receiver. I'm confused on what the converter does, will the converter let me use a class 3 receiver if I buy one and just connect it?

  1. The rating of a hitch, class 1,2 or 3 is for the total towed weight and the weight on the tongue. You should always install the largest hitch that your car/truck can handle, the price difference is very little.

If you tow different trailers that take different size balls, and have different tongue heights , then you buy the proper ball and receiver.

  2. The Converter is an electrical connector package that  either

    A) allows the electrical connections to be made without cutting any wires.

    OR

    B) "Converts" the  light wiring  to use either 4 wire or 7 wire trailers

Class II is Class II up to 3500 pounds gross towing weight

    and 350# tongue weight

Anything more MAY cause permanent damage to your vehicle

  3. I’ve never herd of a converter for a hitch.

All I can thing of is an adapter!

That would be inserted into a receiver opening and reduce it from the larger opening to the smaller 1” for using the smaller tow bar assembly for  light items. But I wouldn’t use an adapter, I would just get the different ball, anyway.
