Recent Ps2 Games with no online?

My friend is poor so he only has a ps2, so he bought a internet adapter for it but he sees that recent games on ps2 can't play online, but old games like ratchet, CoD3, etc. can play online. My friend felt like he justed wasted money, is that true?

well, if he doesn't get any of the old games, i guess so--but he could probably sell the adapter to an EB games or gamestop if he wants the money back.
