I'm graduating in December 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. I have a 3.3 gpa and am a member of a national honor society.

Right now, I'm completing an internship with a human service agency working with children with autism and other behavioral health problems. I have 3 years experience working with children. I've also attended many trainings and conferences in my field.

I've been applying to jobs in various locations but have heard nothing back yet. I've had help writing my resume and cover letter from an HR employee. But no luck...Am I applying too early (since I'm not available til Dec.)? How do I get employers in different locations to look consider my resume?

  1. You could try working from home until you found the job that you would love! I work from home in my spare time. I raise my kids, so I only do it when I have time. The monthly income is over $5,500! If that isn't enough, ask me how to make more! Come check it out!

  2. You seem to have all your ducks in a row, but are you doing any follow up phone calls to the companies in which you are sending your resumes?  A simple phone call saying "I recently submitted my resume for employment with your company and I was just calling to see if you received it and if there were any questions that I could answer for you in regards to my resume."

Another thing that might help is catering your resume to each job that you are applying for.  This requires you to do a little research on each company you are applying with and cater your resume to that particular company.

    Goodluck. :)

  3. Are you sending your resumes in response to job openings, or are you sending them out 'cold'?  If you are sending them out cold, you might want to consider adding a cover letter, too.

Also try your university's career center.  They should offer free resume review.  Also enroll with whatever service they have (Jobmate, Careermatch, etc) and actively pursue on-campus interviews.

As another person suggested, you might want to do follow-up calls about a week after you send a company your resume.  It will show that you are interested and not just shipping out a bunch of resumes like the rest of your classmates.

    Good luck!
