Recent disasters?

Question

Hi. I'm doing a Spanish report based on recent disasters. I can't find any recent events that's happened. I tried to google things such as tornadoes. floods, tsunamis, hurricanes, etc. But, they gave me nothing. Can anyone name a recent event that's happened?

Very recent is difficult. If you want something that happened in the past year, there's only a few notable storms: Sidr (~3000+ deaths, possibly topping 10000, and with half a billion dollars in damage), Gonu (~4 billion damages in Oman), Dean (~6 billion+ damages throughout the Caribbean), and Felix/Noel (~150 deaths each, Noel with .5 billion dollars in damage) If you go two years back, Typhoon Durian killed 1400 people, and Typhoon Saomi killed 400+ people with more than 2 billion in damages. 2005 had a plentiful amount of damaging hurricanes, including Stan (1000+ indirect deaths), Rita (few billion dollars in damages), Katrina (well, you know that story), Dennis (few billion dollars in damages) and Wilma (20 billion dollars in damages). The 2004 season included tons of Florida impacts, many doing significant damage (Jeanne, Frances, Charley, and Ivan, Jeanne also killing 3000 people in Haiti). There have been some recent tornado outbreaks, the most notable one being the Super Tuesday Outbreak which happened on Super Tuesday, killing over 50 people and being the most deadly outbreak since 1985. Another significant tornado in the past year was the Greensburg tornado of the May 2007 tornado outbreak, which destroyed the entire town of Greensburg (yes, that's right - all of it). There have been some significant floods in the last year, but none very notable. Wiki-links are provided below.

~ how recent are you looking for?   The most recent and most devistating I think would be Huricane Katrina,,,,,you may want to try the " weather channel.com "   I am sure they would have more up to date weather disasters for you to report on........
