okay here is it folks, and serious answears only...ive read about death of young woman in news amd ive talked to a few divers as well and this is the conclusion we came up with....the woman an inexperniced diver, dives with husband, hits water and grabs mask off husbands face, her arms outstreatched, and sinking fast...conclusion is....her air was not turned on and she panicked when hitting water, bc wasn't inflated, and the combo of the two, killed her...they say the husband who had rescue training left his wife hit the bottom and surfaced for help? id like to see what everybody thinks, and ill give the points to the best answears...again no stupid ones otherwize ill drop you like a weight belt.....

  1. Well for what it's worth.

He had "rescue training". Rescue dive training is like the next class after advanced open water. Advanced Open Water can be taken with less than 10 dives in your log book. I've seen some pretty crappy divers come out as rescue divers with only 20-30 dives to their name that I wouldn't dive with in 5 feet of water. So I take this guys rescue dive training with a grain of salt.

It is very possible she forgot to turn on her air, grabbed his mask etc. and even more possible that he panicked when his mask got torn off and bolted for the surface and didn't realize the seriousness of her situation. How would he know?. I know a lot of divers that truly cant handle the "mask off" drills so it's quite possible he surfaced because he was on the surface already as a result of his mask being off and summoned for help.

I've also heard he requested having their life insurance updated prior to the trip. While this sounds fishy, I think it's common practice for a lot of people to review insurance before a vacation out of the country.

I'm not defending the guy, but there are some things to say in his defense. Although if he is innocent and simply panicked/surfaced because his mask got torn off and chose to surface not knowing his wife's situation...he's an idiot and shouldn't be diving.

  2. that's real odd that he didnt go out to save her, I've never dived but I know you have to take some classes so things like this don't occur how she didn't set her equipment up well I do not understand as that is often done under some kind of supervision, wow that's actually really intresting.
