Old machine won't recognize any kind of USB devices (flash memory etc.) and it does not have a CDRW drive.

I was thinking of a SATA/IDE to USB adaptor device, but didn't want to waste my money if it is not going to work. Any one have suggestions?

(dangling a 10 point "carrot" for best answer)

New PC - Vista :-( Old hard drive has Win98

Will the adaptor just plug and play or will I lose data in the process? Old hard drive works just fine, but no way to interconnect!!!

PLEASE HELP!

  1. remove the Harddrive and fit it into the PATA slot of your new PC as secondary drive.

Vista will recognize the file system as Fat32 and you can use it.

All boards have support for 1 PATA ( Old Techonlogy) Drive setup in them.

  2. you could take your old hard dive out of ur computer and get a caddy for it (read about caddys here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caddy_(hard... )

then just connect ur old hard drive in its new caddy to ur new machine and everything should be fine.

ur usb might not be working because of a lack of drivers on the old windows. perhaps looking into getting drivers for ur usb could work???

  3. You can try couple of things here; depending upon your hardware set up.

    1. You can get a peer to peer network cable and connect those computers via CAT5 jack and see if you can access the other device as a drive. You can buy that cable from best buy or any computer shop.

    2. if you have a broad band connection, you can plug both computers in and create a home network. This will allow you to access the shared folders on both computers and you can transfer them one shared folder to another one

    Good Luck!

  4. connect both with a crossover ethernet utp cable

    cheapest way

  5. if you get really stuck just email them
