Recently fired Kansas City Chiefs’ coach, Todd Haley, can rejoin Arizona Cardinals – NFL News
Hiring and firing are not alien phenomena to hear about at this time of the season. Coming into the action this time are Arizona Cardinals, who are planning to hire the recently fired Kansas City Chiefs’ head coach, Todd Haley. However, no offer has yet
been made by the Cardinals, but their interest is apparent.
There is no denying the fact that the Cardinals are really struggling to improve their offence.
Their quarterback, Kevin Kolb, who had an injury-prone season, completed 146 passes of 253 yards for 1,955 yards in his nine games. He threw nine touchdowns and eight interceptions and held a quarterback rating of 81.1
On the other hand, Kolb’s replacement, John Skelton, played eight games while starting seven of them. He completed 151 passes of 275 attempts for 1,913 yards. He sent 14 interceptions and 11 touchdowns and got a quarterback rating of 68.9.
After the end of the regular season, the Cardinals fired the quarterbacks’ coach, Chris Miller.
Cardinals’ coach, Ken Whisenhunt, has not yet spilled the beans and people are still guessing who would replace Miller.
Whisenhunt said on Monday, January 9, 2012, that there was no option for the Cards, but to fire Miller.
"Evaluating where we are, we felt a change at this time was warranted," he said.
On the other, Haley’s firing also came to no one’s surprise as the Chiefs ended up at the bottom of the American Football Conference (AFC) – West division ranking table after winning seven and losing nine games in the regular season.
With Miller out and a vacant post in the franchise, Haley is seemingly the most favourable option to fill in the void.
Haley has already served the Cards before joining the Chiefs, and it will not be a bad option for him to rejoin with his former franchise.
In an interview, he supposedly implied that he might not face problem in joining the Cardinals again and recalled the rejoicing time had at Atlanta.
"The Cardinals, I love," Haley said. "The Bidwills, Michael Bidwill and Mr. Bidwill, have been nothing but great to me. Kenny Whisenhunt has been nothing but great to me and gave me a great opportunity that I was able to expand on. I love a bunch of the
players that are still there and they mean a lot to me.”
Haley served as offensive coordinator at Arizona Cardinals for two years after joining the franchise in 2007.
The 2008 season was unarguably his best coaching period. The Cardinals reached the Super Bowl, and maintained a healthy average in terms of offense throughout the season.
On an average, they scored 26.7 points and rushed for 365.8 yards per game. Their passing game was league’s second best as they averaged 292.1 yards per game.
Neither the Cardinals nor Haley has given any official word about joining hands, but both the parties have expressed interest in meeting each other. One cannot but speculate that something is cooking!
