Question:

Recently the water in only one of my toilets is tinted a "tea" color. What could be the cause? Thanks.

When the water filled into the tank, it is the color of "tea". Looks like someone forgot to flush! Any advise on how to correct this, or what the cause could be? I've noticed it for two days now. Thanks.

  1. it's more than likely rust, how old is your plumbing?

  2. It could be from the supply, but that would affect all taps. What you could do is lift up the cistern lid and look inside. The older cisterns was made of cast iron and they rust causing a rust brown colour in the water. I replaced my cast iron cistern because it was rusted badly.

  3. It might be iron in your water supply or the water pipe to that toilet is corroded on the inside. Turn on your outdoor tap closest to that toilet and check the water color. If it is tea colored too, turn off the water supply and drain from that tap and then open all water taps inside and out and drain. Also, check inside the storage tank on the toilet 1st as it may be dirty. Do this 1st as it's the easiest.
