I have a wire running from the circuit board and its connected to a duplex outlet and splice to another outlet.

Can I splice it with a junction box, before reaching the first outlet, and then form there connect to a new duplex receptacle?

  1. don't see why not.  Get black and Decker's, advanced wiring book.

  2. Sure. It might not be to code. So long as you don't have too many outlets on the circuit already.

  3. Just be sure that you have enough slack to make that splice.

Code requires that 6" of wire project from the new box

from each end of the cable.

Code requires that the splice box remain accessable.

(Physically, you can get away with less, but it can be

really hard to get a good splice without some wire

from both ends loose enough to get at.)
