Reception idea?...maybe?

Question

So, I'm having a very small wedding (just parents, grandparents, siblings and our two closest friends) and I was thinking that afterwards instead of having a reception we could just book for a private event at a very nice restaurant. Does that sound tacky? If so, does anyone else have any other suggestions for a small celebration?

That is what we did and it worked out great.  After dinner we went to a piano bar and had alot of fun, a few more of our friends met us there.

It's actually perfect - you don't have to cook and you can just enjoy yourselves.

That is a great idea. instead of WASTING all that money on just a few people is unnecessary. Having a sit down dinner at a restaurant is a GREAT idea. You are making me rethink my reception ideas. Congrats and God Bless!!!

no i think that's fine! one of my good friends did that. she just had her family, his family, and a few close friends and then all went out to dinner afterwards. it was fun!!

no, not tacky!!!  my cousin is doing the same thing (while at the same time, i am planning my dream wedding) and i almost envy her for her choice!

Not tacky at all! That's pretty much the best thing to do when you have a very small reception.

To me that makes a lot more sense than having it catered, since there's so few people.  Usually you would only get an event catered if you have a large group of people.

Not at all! The most important thing is that you and the groom have a wonderful time. I always said that I didn't care if I had a BBQ and got married in my back yard as long as everyone gets along and it is the best day ever! You do what you feel is the most meaningful and memorable to you and your forever love.

Why would you think your idea is tacky?  It is certainly not tacky at all!  And, yes,

it is a reception.  A reception is any party after the wedding.  Just because you are not having the "traditional" big gala with a cocktail hour, dinner, DJ, and dancing.....it is still a reception.  So go right ahead and book a private room at a nice restaurant.  Many couples do this!  

Just make sure that this is not a "pay your own meal" type of thing.  If you are hosting/planning, then you should also be paying the meal/drink bill.  Unless, of course, your parents or your fiance's parents have offered to pay.

I hope you have a beautiful wedding and an enjoyable and fun dinner reception with your family and friends.

if your talking about just having those few people  you mentioned at your ceromony then plan on all going to a resturant i think that sound very nice theres nothing wrong with that you will save money and have a peaceful night sourounded by the people you love i say if you have no disire for a big party and the stuff that goes along with it i say go for it it doesnt matter how you spend your wedding day whats important in my opinion anyway is the people you spend it with good luck and congratulations
