  1. this is half true, as cells do use receptors (glycocalyx) in the fluid mosaic membrane (cell membrane) to detect and engulf larger solid molecules via endocytosis, but they would'nt be random protiens, these would be absorbed as amino acids. thats why the cell has these receptors, so it can be selective about absorbtion.
