i'm 19 n my son is currently 9 weeks so i still got time but i'd still love to be prepared. i'm looking for recipes on how to make home made food to wean him on.. (for example mashed fruit etc..)

i'm open for any suggestions cos i'd like to avoid the baby jars and make fresh food myself and even freeze some to use (not gna start making them now!)

even a website would b perfect, or a book. i dont live in england, i live in central europe though i'm pretty sure i'll find your advice useful :)

i dnu if it makes a difference but i'm breastfeeding atm (n HOPE to keep doing it until i start weaning him at least) -- just in case there r certain recipes -- i dnu cos i'm new at this hehe :)

thanks a mil in advance xx

  1. Well, you have a lot of time to get prepared!  All his tummy needs right now and until he is 6 months is breastmilk.

At 6 months, you can start with food.  Baby led weaning (BLW) is where at 6 months, you just feed normal solid foods....no pureeing anything.  Check out:http://babyledweaning.blogware.com/

If you are going to go the pureed route, this website has a ton of great recipes and ideas for purees.

  2. Hi what a beautiful time for you! My child was breastfed too and as I'm a vegan I would only ever use vegetables and fruit. I tried carrots mashed but she didn't like that one so avoid it as I think the taste is too strong. Perhaps you could make fruit smoothies and feed them to your son via spoon. I didn't have a blender at the time so couldn't do that. Cooked mashed apple is a good one but the smoothies would be far superior in vitamins. The Vegan Society publish a booklet about feeding children a vegan diet and had recipes for weaning in it. Another top tip from my friend was dried apple rings for teething babes, its the most natural form of teether you could ever get. Hope this all helps and all the greatest of blessings to you and your child

  3. I make a big batch at a time...start with sweet potatoes and carrots...pear too as these are all sweetish and easy for a baby to cope with...just steam the veg really soft then pop in a food proccessor...whizz till smooth...put into ice cube trays allow to cool and put in freezer bags labelled with what it is and the date...keeps for 3 months...freeze and every morning pop a cube or 2 out and allow to defrost before heating in a bowl which is in another bowl of hot water..avoid microwaves...for the very fist solids I have found most babies prefer baby porrige to baby rice...it tastes nicer!

  4. The first Ideal thing to try is baby rice. Mix one spponful of baby rice with 10 spoons of breast milk.

My baby loves pureed parsnip and carrot. Also apple, pear and baby rice. Babies love mashed banana.

    Www.tinytums.com is a good site.

    Also look at annabel carmel!

  5. I dont know whether you have heard about Annabel Karmel but if not she has wrote many books on weaning and recipes. Im sure you will be able to buy her books easily online. She is very popular and her ideas are simple yet tasty. Im currently in process of starting to wean my 6 month old boy and have started with just pureed fruit or veg and baby rice however I plan to use Annabels recipes when he is a bit older.
