How much recoil does the 30-378 weatherby mag. have. you can compare it to a 12 gauge, 270. or a 30-06. i know it will be more but how much more.

If you have experience with this gun, do you like it?

  1. A 8lb .270  shooting a 150gr bullet produces a recoil velocity of 12fps and 17ft/lbs of recoil energy.

    A 7.5lb 30/378 produces a recoil velocity of 22.5 ft/sec

and 58.9 ft/lbs of recoil energy.

As you can see there is a big difference.

  2. Considering the Weatherby Mark V weighs about 9 lbs, and comes with a muzzle break, not very much.

  3. Before you experience the recoil have you experienced the cost of the rifle, optics and boxes of ammunition?

Experience: I sold one. three  days later the guy put it up for sale on consignment in my shop. Being it's already used, I fired a few rounds and can't see a purpose for the cartridge other than someone who want to make a 30 cal bullet go as fast as possible.  Now, I shoot a 375 H&H for Moose, I don't mind that at all, it has a purpose.

  4. Its manageable, its not like your going to shoot it like it would a 22 L. R.*

  5. I have alittle.   Just to throw out a something I'd say it "kicks" about 35% more than a .270 (I think a winchester model 270 kicks more than a winchester 30-06)

The gun belonged to a friend of mine.  He was trying to sell it.  Not because he didn't like it, but because quiet honestly it's sort of an absolete round.  I mean a 30-6 is large enough to handle any north american animal.  I guess if you're planning on going on an African hunt and hunt buffalo or something, and money were not a problem and you were a collector then get one.  If not.  If not, then it's like buying bullet proof tires for you truck...is it worth it?

Oh...and another opinion.   If thinking about the recoil is going to be factor when shooting a rifle then you really shouldn't get the rifle.
