my 8mm custom mauser has a h**l of a lot of kick, more than a stock 8mm mauser, and frankly, it hurts to shoot more than 10 rounds. does anyone make a recoil pad that will fit the stock of this rifle?

  1. That would depend on the shape of the custom buttstock, but yes, you can have a recoil pad added that will help.

LimbSaver and Pachmayer Decelerator are two brands that stand out. Even with a custom stock, you can find a pad that will fit, although it may be a 'grind to fit' size. I'd advise getting your local gunsmith to do this, unless you are adventerous and very mechanically inclined.

I own a 8mm Mauser "carbine" which was an original gun butchered by the scam artist at Mitchell's Mausers. Talk about kick, especially with that super hot surplus Turk ammo.

  2. I collect and shoot old military thundersticks and have discovered the answer to the metal buttplate and 8mm carbines and all that is the Limbsaver.  It tames the beast in them and makes the fun funner.  The acid test was a Brazilian Mauser in 30-06 that tended to make fillings fall out of your teeth; which is why the guy sold it to me for fifty bucks; I put on a limbsaver and it is a pussycat now.  Pachemeyer makes a nice one, too.

  3. I take it the rifle was customized for somebody else. Do yourself a favor and take it to a gunsmith who knows his business about wood, have yourself measured, and have the stock fitted to you. He can put all sorts of recoil pads on it, and trim to fit.

  4. check out limbsaver.com; they have several varieties, one of them is bound to work for you. I kind of like the slip on type myself, because you don't have to alter the gun. Still, I wonder if it shifts when you shoot. There is also a google search included here that will link you to a bunch of other recoil pads; if you spend the time you might find the exact one.
