Question:

Recomended Motorcycle Jacket For Women?

I just got my first bike (yahoo!), its a Ninja 250 and its silver/black. I'm super excited. Now i'm looking for a good jacket. Winter is coming up and I get cold really easily so that's one of my concerns. My other is having body armour in it or a material that is heavy duty. I'm looking to spend under $150 if possible. Does anybody have any recomendations for brands or types? If it makes a difference, i am 5'2" and 130lbs, semi-slender body style. Thanks!

  1. You're going to have a hard time finding a jacket that gives you what you want for that price. At least not without doing a lot of hunting. I've noticed some good prices lately in several of the online stores on closeout items, however, few of the good leather jackets are below $200. I saw an icon leather for $180 at Bike Bandit. If you are good with mesh or textile, I've definitely seen some good prices on those.

  2. When it comes to body armor and well made jackets , money should not be your primary concern. Injuries are not forgiving of poorly made equipment. That being said Joe Rocket has some jackets in that range. Leather works well too to block the wind and has good skin abrasion protection. You can get leather with body amour too but expect to pay more. Anything is better than nothing but put a good jacket on your Christmas list. I like Cortech jackets because they have good abrasion protection, armor, and reflective. They are closer to $500.00 though. One fall off the bike and you will wish that is one area you do not skimp on. Whatever you get should be a good fit to work well.

If you really get cold easy then look into obtaining a Gerbings heated liner. It plugs into your bike's electrical system and you dial in the level of heat desired. With a bike that small, you may have to turn it off when you are idling or  stop and go traffic. Another possibility is a good rain jacket worn over your motorcycle jacket. The seams are sealed and preventing the warm air next to your body from leaving and being replaced with cold air works well too down to about 40 F

Cabellas has really sweet blue jeans for men and women that are fleece lined. That really goes a long way in keeping your legs warm. It also pads the seat a little more so less monkey butt on a longer ride. Leather chaps hold in warm air as well. Use the two together and that part of your body won't get cold at 30F

Hope that helps....ride safe.... ride smart.

  3. Probably the best thing to do is go to a dealer and see what is on offer.

I have two jackets, one of which is a Segura (I am at work and don't have the other one, I'm afraid) and it was about the £70  mark (approximately $140), but it may have been on offer as it was at a motorcycle show.

It has body armour (elbows, shoulders and back), a removable thermal layer and is a tight fit.It also has an integrated waterproof layer.

I don't think there are any particular brands aimed at women. One thing though is that with all the lining and stuff makes it almost impossible to tell what size you are. For your first jacket it might be best to check out a few dealers and see what fits you because if you buy online then you risk getting something too small. Both of mine are extra large, despite the fact that I normally wear medium size clothes.

I live in Ireland and it is constantly wet here, so I would advise getting water proof motorcycle trousers as well.

  4. fieldsheer contour mesh jacket is decent, you can get one linked here for $90.  That is a summer jacket, though.  for winter time, that same site has a joe rocket luna jacket for the same price.  you should get some decent gloves and boots too.

  5. I would go and try on a bunch of jackets and make a list of the ones you like and the sizes that fit you. Then I would hit ebay looking for a used one. I have two riding jackets from the same company. The first one was somewhere around $475.00 with shipping. I have a different model jacket form the same company that sells for the same price. I got it in new condition from an ebay seller for something like $175.00.

I would rather have a first quality used jacket than a brand new cheap one, but that doens't mean you can't get a good new jacket for $150.00. I got my Icon Tarmac summer mesh jacket for $75.00 on clearance.

    Good luck!

Good gear makes riding a lot safer and a lot more fun.
