Recommend A Web Design Book?

I am looking for a decent book\cheap course that will increase my knoknowledge about web design along with css/html and maybe a little java.

Maybe even a few good websites that are worth looking at?

I currently have little knowledge of web design but am not a complete novice as I have created this site www.tombale.co.uk fairly recently.

java is not javascript anymore then a pizza is a hamburger.

stick to xhtml/css table-less desgn.

i recommend the websites zengardencss.com and alistapart.com - they cover this stuff, but not always at a beginner level.

I assume you mean Javascript when you say "java", If that's the case read "DOM Scripting: Web Design with JavaScript and the Document Object Model" and learn Jquery.
