I am looking for a HD compact camcorder at under £600ish with 1080p recording and 720p recording options with either:

1080p @ 60fps recording

or

720p @ 60ps recording

but both would be prefered

It needs to have 1080p recording capabilities but does not HAVE to record at 1080p @ 60fps but does needs to record at 720p @ 60fps.

Also i would like an optical zoom of 10x or more if possible and a still image resolution of 4mpix. or more please.

Thanks alot in advance !!!

  1. you specify consumer grade gear at that price point.

HDV is the consumer HD tape system and it does not do any of your requirements. HDV does not do progressive, 60 fps, or 720.

HDD is the only option. The Sony HDR-SR10 is an example the weighs in at $999 US (refurb).  the aggressive AVCHD compression is used.  And because it has a microscopic 1/5 inch CCD sensor, it comes with 15x optical zoom. 4 MP on stills.

The JVC GZHD7 Enviro is slightly more expensive. the 1/5 inch ccd is scanned progressive but the VBR mpeg2 encoding for HD is interlace (?). 1/2 MP on stills.

for some reason most HDD systems don't do 720. 720p is widely used professionally, but with very expensive gear.

Why you would be concerned with progressive scan is a mystery. no consumer system delivers 60 frames per second, or even 30 frames. They actually compress down to about 4 to 6 frames per second and interpolate the missing frames on playback. the data rate is limited to 25 to 27 MBPS for storage and transmission purposes. Professional gear uses SDI-HD for uncompressed video, defined by SEMPTE as 1480 MBPS. at this data rate interlace or progressive actually means something.
