Hi everyone! I've just got a new job and I will have to commute about 120miles a day so I need to bet me a car. Could you recommend me an economical car? Should I buy a second hand or brand new car? I've heard the Toyota Aygo is a good option but will it stand 120miles a day, 5 days a week? I need something reliable and cheap. Whatever you can contribute will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot guys!

Cheers

Edgar

  1. i recommend the honda fit.  it is very gas economic, in style and its a honda, so you know it will give you everything its got, day in and day out.

  2. Yes, the Aygo will stand the distance.

Actually I think the Aygo will be the best car for you.

  3. I am a high mileage commuter as well. Because of the mileage I do i did not even consider a new car as the depreciation would be punitive. I am driving a Peugeot 406hdi deisel estate (110bhp) a firm favourite with Mini Cabbers. The engines are good for 300k, they dont rust, are roomy and comfortable but for reasons totally beyond me, sell s/h for far less than they are really worth. I keep a very close and accurate check on my fuel consumption and looking at my log see that over the last 23 thousand miles I have averaged 47.4mpg. I have had NO problems of any kind apart from the drivers seat air bag now and then seems to have an iffy electrical connection and will light the warning light. This spasmodic though and I am told is a common fault.

  4. Check this out, imagine going to your job in this:

  5. DIESEL

  6. If its just for work buy a Geo Metro my friend use to own one and it got him about 45miles to the gallon. There cheap also and it lasted him for about 4 years but when he got it it had over 150k on it so find one with low miles. If not go for a new car I would say buy a hybrid. Good Luck

  7. get a train its eco friendlier.:)

  8. The Aygo is tiny, I'm sure it will last but may not be too comfortable for long commutes.  Perhaps try looking at the Honda Civic hybrid or the Toyota Prius, both being hybrids the fuel economy is very good.

If you are considering buying new, also have a look at leasing a car.  Often the cost of leasing is less than the depreciation of a brand new car.

  9. My 94 Civic has 187K miles and still runs like new.  It can get 41 MPG on the hwy (and that's with me speeding at 72 MPH).

I can't say all other old honda will hold up like this... but...

    Good Luck...

P.S.  120 miles per day !!!  You might as well stay at home with the gas prices so high.

  10. Honda civic, fit,  KIA rio, Toyota yaris,.  Honda and Toyota are the best, but if you need to save money you can get a KIA cheap and they are good cars.  Good Luck.

  11. Honda

  12. 1. Honda Fit (base) - $15,385

    2. Mazda 3i Sport (sedan) - $17,205

    3. Hyundai Elantra SE - $17,945
