Recommendation for a relaxing winter train ride in switzerland?

I hope to do a relaxing train route in Switzerland? I hope to stop in little towns along the way to enjoy the winter (hopefully some snow). In this time of the year, do you have any recommendations? We are going to leave from Paris.

Thank you.

  1. How long do you have?

I like the Bernina Express,  which is a good choice if you take the night train from Paris-Est to Chur. It offers spectacular views, impressive bridges and commentary in German, English, and Romantsch (which you don't hear every day!). Probably Italian too, and maybe French, I forget. Book the Panorama car! Or consider getting out and walking around Davos, St-Moritz or Bergun (probably other places but those I've been to) and then catch the next train. (Best situation for this is to have a railpass, although you are allowed to make stops and take later trains (check your ticket for how long it's valid) with a regular ticket--just not for the Panorama car reservation.)

If you're leaving Paris in the morning, probably better is to take the TGV to Geneva or Lausanne and maybe head for Zermatt or Brig, Martigny, etc--somewhere in Valais--or somewhere in the Berner Oberland, eg Spiez, Thun.

  2. Winter in Switzerland there is tons of snow. In the mountains I went skiing there. The cities there are beautiful at night. I recommend to bring warm clothes, prepare for lots of walking, and dinner might get hard to find.
