  1. Any hotel in the central area is near everything. Here's a place I stayed at in Trastevere that is nice and a short walk to the Forum, Colloseum, etc. it is also one block from the two Trams that go to the major sights. Trastevere is across the river on the same side as the Vatican, it's primarily residential with lots of local flavor, but lots of restaurants and nitelife. http://www.hotelsanfrancesco.net/

You would have to get two rooms the biggest they have is a triple.

  2. try this website and search hotels http://www.ytbtravel.com/jeffmisawa

  3. I stayed in the "Hotel Pineta Palace" which is on the outskirts of Vatican city so it is pretty cheap, and they had a shuttle to the Vatican and you can also take a cheap city bus to the metro station which gets you to all the sites of ancient Rome. It is a really big hotel and we snuck 6 people into 2 rooms. We also had a view of St. Peter's Dome from the terraces in our rooms. It was rather luxurious for the price we paid. Greatttt free breakfast too.

  4. ROME -- recommend hotels along the via della conciliazione (www.hotelcolumbus.it) - right by the Vatican and close to the metro - very central. also right by the Borgo Pio which has great shops, bakeries, tratorria's etc.

    we were central to everything!!!
