I now use a Hampton Classic and it's too tight on my horse's shoulder. What brands do you recommend I try for a thoroughbred that is built more like a warmblood but has a somewhat high wither? Thank you!

  1. I have a pessoa A/O, the newest version, and it fits EVERYTHING.

My medium-wide tree warmblood goes great in it, and my moms high withered TB loves it to.

I use it on a National Show Horse, a Warmblood, a TB-built warmblood with high withers, and my horses, and they all love it.

  2. Over the years I've used my Stubben Siegfried A/P for everything from my TBs, QHs to one VERY broad Azteca and it's NEVER been an issue.

  3. mine has a high wither as well so we got him a wither relief pad and it goes right over his saddle blanket im not sure what kind of saddle to use and as long as you get one wide enough you could get a wither relif pad if the saddle is too low for his wither it works great for my TB.

  4. My friend recently gave me a Crosby close contact, but I can't remember the specific model. It seems to fit broad horses with wide withers quite well. We use it on two of our thoroughbreds at our barn, and she used it on her thoroughbred. It seems to be good for fitting horses that are otherwise difficult to fit.

I believe it was the Prix de Nations, but I'm not entirely sure. It had no knee rolls, although it did have a very small knee block.

  5. I ride in an Antares and find it fits most anything I ride. They come in a range of makes and can be custom. Very pricey though. Paramount saddles are great as well, totally custom.

You may be able to find a cut back saddle to allow clearance on the withers, but I couldn't name any quality makes that would sell such a saddle.

Is the biggest problem the wide shoulder or the high wither? A cut out pad can do so much for a saddle that nearly fits buts needs a slight lift.

  6. borrow friend's that have different saddles and try each one on to see which one fits the best.
