I am traveling to Playa del Carmen in about a month and wondering what places you would recommend visiting. Restaurants, tours, day trips, etc. I am staying at the Occidental Grand Xcaret. I am 22 yrs old and will be going there with my parents (both in their early 40s), and my 18 yr old sister.

  1. 1.-Xcaret Eco Park (Next to your Hotel).

Mayan Villeage, Ruins & History, Flora & Fauna (Conservation programs), Water Sports (Snorkeling, Kayaking, Diving), Swim with Dolphins, Underground river, Shows, Mexican Traditions & Festivities.

    2.- Puerto Aventuras.

Yatch & Golf club, White sandy beaches, dolphins, little restaurant-bars surrounding the yatch club.

    3.- Akumal.

The very first resort in the Mexican Caribbean (developed in the mid 70's before cancun) is now a calm fishermen and tourist gateaway. Great Fishing, Small but great restaurant bars, and tours to Xpu Ha and other hidden beaches.

    4.- Xel Ha Eco Park.

Its like Xcaret but more natural.

    5.- Tulum

Some of the best beaches in the Riviera Maya, Mayan Ruins, Art Crafts and Restaurant Bars. Tulum has a "more relaxed atmosphere" than Cancun and Playa del carmen, because its smaller and full of hippies / travelers from around the world.

6.- Boca Paila and the Sia an Kaan Biosphere Reserve. Boca Paila is a fishermen villeage where you can find great Lobster for a few Bucks (Lobster lives in the inner lagoons of Siaan Kaan). Nature sightseen, kayaking and great Beaches.

7.- Isla Mujeres & El Garrafon Eco Park.

Isla Mujeres is a small Island just next to Cancun. Playa Norte is the best beach in the Island, and the Garrafon Eco Park is great for snorkeling. You can rent a Golf car and take a tour around the island (a 30 minute ride).

    8.- Tres Rios.

Espeleology / Underground Rivers & Cenotes for diving.

    9.- Aktun Chen Park.

    Caves, Underground Rivers and Cenotes.

    10.- Cozumel.

Cozumel is an Island next to Playa del Carmen (a 30 minute ride in fast speed ferrys) and has the second largest Coral Barrier of teh World. Palancar and Colombia Reefs are great for snorkeling and Diving. Cozumel receives more Cruiseships than any other port in Mexico and you can find a lot of Jewelries & Duty Free Stores. Great International Food at Guidos or Pepes Grill.

    11. Playa del Carmen

Its the heart of the Riviera Maya. Every tourist booked in the Resorts along the Riviera Maya goes to Playa for shopping, dinning, nightlife and fun. "La Quinta" is where all is happening in playa, its a pedestrian street full of stores and Restaurant Bars. Il Divino is a classy Restaurant with great food and wines, El DIablito Cha Cha Cha is another great option (try the Sea Bass Skewers). For younger people I recommend Ula Gula (great food, great music and interesting people). There are a lot of Beaches in "Playa", like Playa Tukan or Playa Mamitas, both have restaurants and tents or palapas to rent (in Playa Mamitas you can find very good looking people having great time with the dj sounds). Lot of Bars such as Deseo, Santanera, Ohm, Blue Parrot.

    12.  Isla Holbox ("Hole-Bush" Island)

Small Fishermen villeage north of Cancun. Whale Sharks Sightseeing, Jungle Tours and great fishing.

    13.Chichen Itza and Valladolid.

One of the receintly devealed New wonders of the World, its a bout a 2hrs bus ride from Playa. Chichen Itza is one of the biggest Mayan spots in the Yucatan. Valladolid is a small town with colonial architechture and two cenotes to swin and dive. You can find the Grutas de Balankanchen Caves right nex to the town.

  2. We went to Xcaret and had a great time. Swim with the dolphins, underwater river, water attractions, man made beach. It's a Eco Archaeological Theme Park. Great fun. You will be adjacent to the park.

You are staying at one of the nicest locations in Yucatan.

    Plenty to do.
