  1. I like the Evenflo Triumph Advance convertible carseat and also the First Years True Fit convertible car seat. They're really good and has a lot of features and they're at an ok price at about $130-180.

  2. We have used an excellent car seat, the Cosco Triumph Convertible, for both of our now 5 year old twin daughters and our 18 month old son.  They can use it to face backward until 35 lbs, which is great because they are legally ready to face forward at 12 months but NOT developmentally ready.  It can then face forward until 50 lbs.

The best part is the easy harness adjustment system.  You just turn a k**b to loosen or tighten the harness!  It is wonderful on spring and fall days when you might have on a few more or less layers each time you re-enter the car.

  3. I have a Britax Marathon. It worked great backwards and will be able to hold my daughter till she out grows a carseat. You won't have to buy a new one later on when he gets bigger.

  4. I recommend a Britax.  I have had three Roundabouts, and LOVED them, though I would get one that can handle higher than 40lbs.

  5. I second the Evenflo Triumph Advance..  It will last your child until they are approx 5 years old.

I just got one for my 5 month old, who is almost outgrown his infant seat.  I love it!

  6. I have this seat http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp...

I love it. It a little bigger than a standard convertible seat, but it holds kids up to 5 yrs and 50 lbs. My kids get really big really quick, so a seat that will last a few years longer is a good buy for me.

  7. Convertable carseats rearface up to 35 lbs so that is what you will need to get.

  8. I have an Eddie Bauer (also know as the Alpha Omega or Costco) and the Evenflo Triump Advanced.  The evenflo is about 2/3 the price and just as the reviews said it is a superiour seat.

In the Eddie Bauer the shoulder straps run under the baby's butt, and they are always getting slightly pulled so they are too tight on one side and too loose on the other.  With the weight of the baby in the seat its almost impossible to shift them.  The evenflo is way easier to adjust, the only downside is that the level of the should harness adjusts so easily that you may have to adjust it each time... on the other hand it adjust so easily you could do it with your eyes closed while sleeping.

  9. You should keep your child in the rear facing position for as long as possible, even if she meets one or both of the guidelines (and she should meet at least both before turning her around).

At one year old, babies' heads are still very large and heavy in proportion to their little necks, and keeping them in the rear facing position is much safer for them in the event of a crash.  The risk of head and neck injuries (and death) is lower if they are rear facing.

We kept our son facing backwards until he was two years old and weighed far more than 20 pounds.  We had a Britax convertible seat that allowed us to do that, and once he was forward facing, he was able to use the same seat until he was big enough for a booster.

  10. Any convertible car seat will do.  Britax is the top of the line model (around $250), but a $60 convertible seat that passed safety inspections is just fine, too!  We use the Eddie Bauer Deluxe.

  11. Depends on how tall the child is.  I have two boys and they both moved to front facing at different times.  My older son moved at about 10 months, because he got too tall.  He would have had his legs pinned against the back of the seat, which would have put his legs/feet in an already confining predicament in the event of an accident.

My younger son switched to front-facing at nine months for the same reason (height).  He could wrap his legs around the adult seat while riding rear-facing at just nine months!!

Best bet is to go to your closest fire station.  The ones around here were very helpful when my wife and I had the same questions.   Police department is also a good resource.

  12. Britax Roundabout or Marathon

  13. I also have the Evenflo Triumph, and love it. My son is 8 1/2 months and over 20lbs as well, and I have no problems getting him in and out, other than the fact I drive a POS 2 door. I love how it's easily adjusted so I don't have to uninstall it to change the straps. This will be an awesome thing come winter.
