  1. If you are ordering the board new, I suggest you talk it over with the folks at you local surf shop. They will have a better idea of what has or hasn't been working out in the break(s) that you ride.

If it is a used board, ride what you have on it. If there are changes you want to make, then go back to the surf shop. Also, if it is a used board, you are limited by the type of fin box(es) already installed.

Rusty makes about twenty different boards that come out in the 6'3" range, so you have to tell us which model you have. Obviously what works on a real fat 6'3" fish won't cut it on a 6'3" performance model like the redline or injector.

Check link for some basic 'fin education' I have boards with FCS and Future fins, but they are really different types of boards, so there is a reason for the variety. Good luck

  2. If you've got some money tothrow around go with the  FCS K fins.  Great flex, great shape.  I reccomend them for a shortboard.

  3. FCS

  4. Back in the day we called them "skegs". If it's a tri-fin use a 8 to10 inch speed fin in the center and 4 to 6 inch fins on the outside so they don't slow ya down but only help stabilize the action on the rear of the board.

I still surf but prefer a single fin. Best of luck

  5. The latest and greatest in mass produced fins are thr "foiled" fins.  These fins have surface contours that re taken from aeronautical research data on wings done by NASA in the 40s and 50s.  Both FCS and Futures offer foiled fins.  There a ton of other fins shapes and setups out there though; quad thrusters, quads with canards, twinzers, bonzers, 2+1s, even 5 fin thruster set ups.  They each have their pros and cons.

In reality unless you are really i tune with your boards and your surfing I would go with whatever the shaper recommends for that board.  In most cases boards are designed with specific fins in mind.
