Question:

Recommendations for women's GS racing skis?

Can they be forward mounted, or are the mounting positions "fixed" on the race plate? I need to find a short size, somewhere between 150 and 160cm. I also have a set of never-used Salomon 912-Ti bindings I would like to use with the skis if possible.

  1. It all depends on what ski and if it an integrated system or not.  Typically a set of bindings could be moved forward of the balance point on a set of skiis. But WHY? A forward mount to binding will loose some high speed stability although you may get a quicker turn.  The easier turn is also gained by retuning the ski to a different base bevel.  This will allow an easier turn initiation.

  2. 150 or 160 is pretty short, how tall are you?  I think the bindings will probably be fine, but I can't say so for sure.

  3. Well i personally love fischer skis but you may have a problem because of the length of the skis you want. many of the ski racing associations in this country have specific requirements in terms of ski length. For women both USSA and FIS require a ski length of at least 175 cm for gs and 155 cm for slalom. Also alot of the time you buy bindings with the ski and you should always use the binding that is meant for that particular ski model. so unless you are considering buying salomon skis you might have an issue. In terms of whether the ski you buy will have the bindings at a fixed spot on the race plate the only company that i know of that still does that is Elan and that is because there race plates are built into the ski.

    Hope this helps.
