  1. I would be careful about where you use an inflatable kayak.  Unless the fabric is bulletproof, I would be leery of getting a puncture or leak someplace where you'll have to swim home.

I have an Old Town Rush that is a fun basic day-tripping boat.  It's light enough to make it easy to load/unload, launch, etc.  It's tough enough that I can go over rocks and such without worrying about punctures.  The price is reasonable for what you get too, I think.

  2. About two years ago I bought an Advanced Elements kayak  (DragonFly 2) and have been satisfied with it. It fits in a large gym bag in my trunk and I bought break down paddles that can fit in the same bag. The kayak is a two seater and holds two aduts or can be used with one adult and two kids in the other seat.

The advantages to the inflatable are that I have taken it anywhere and can leave it in my trunk for weeks at a time. I have used it on lakes, rivers and bays in four states.

I would not consider taking it white water rafting as I would want something more rigid, but this just might be hype more than anything else.

A great resource for kayaking and kayak reviews is http://www.paddling.net It contains reviews for hundreds of kayaks sorted by manufacturer. As to where to buy one, it really depends on whether you are looking for an all in one shop or want to hunt to save money. West Marine Boating Stores carries a large variety of IK, but they need to order it to the store. Eastern Mountain Sports, d**k's and Modell's also claim to have them, but I have not tried to buy there.
