Hi and thanks for reading.

I've read several of the posts and I would like recommendations based on personal experience for specific products to capture video from my Directv DVR, my JVC mini-DV camcorder, and also from VHS tapes and record the output on my pc or laptop

I want it on my hard drive so I can work with it and then burn it to a DVD and then delete it. I don't think I want to capture directly to a DVD.

I've looked at the Dazzle unit from Pinnacle but it appears that it can only capture straight to a DVD. Hauppage seems to have some good products.

I prefer an external unit that I can use on my laptop or pc.

Also, would I have problems if I use a USB cable of about 20 feet in length so I can reach the pc?

Thanks for reading.

  1. Those USB ports on the DVR are for future features..You would be available to do such things like upload programming on to your computer and burn dvds..When I was workign for Directv it wasnt available..and I have a friend who works there and he hadnt mentioned anything to me about..and I don't think they have all the legal matters and software finished or maybe they are waiting for a special date..but Hey! It wouldnt hurt to give a call.
