Question:

Recommendations on what to do for home that was hit by tornado?

Everyone is fine luckily. House got wacked by a tornado a few days ago...it's insured. nobody's telling us what can be done other than wait for the adjusters call. needless to say my paperwork w/ receipts and such blew away since my doors and windows ripped off and got sucked off. Will I not be able to claim my receiptless contents that were damaged? Any tips on what to do to prepare for making the insurance report a bit of an easier transition?

thank you so much =)

  1. You need to mitigate your loss - make temporary repairs, even if it's just nailing plywood sheets over the holes.  Keep the receipts for that.

You don't need receipts for contents, for the most part.

Don't throw away anything damaged.  Call your relatives, see if any have photos of the inside of your house (contents proof of ownership!) during any recent holiday get togethers.

You can also call your credit card companies, and ask for statements from the past year or two (receipts!).

  2. cover and protect your home, insurance will pay reasonable costs for you or a service to do this. Secure any valuables, board up the windows and doors, thief's are already in your neighborhood.  By now you have contacted your insurance carrier and they should have told you the same thing.

  3. I am not gonna say that I am totally sure about the answer.it is really depending on the personal feelings.thus it would better for you to try to find the best answer yourself. Here is a good resource for reference though.http://home-insurance.featured-resources...

  4. Get a camera and take photos of everything that you can that was damaged.
