Question:

Recommended Dimmable CFL for recessed/flood lights?

I'm getting recessed lights put into a family room (R40). I'm looking for recommendations on a CFL with good light output (75-100w equivalent), instant on (no delay) and the ability to dim. I've read mixed reviews on GE, Netun and Greenlite (though I can't find them recently). Most bad reviews talked about buzzing and light discoloration. Does anyone have experience with any of these or others and can recommend one and a good place/website to purchase?

I realize these will be more expensive, but I know I will save in the long run with reduced electricity costs and fewer bulb changes.

  1. Don't use regular CFL bulbs in sockets controlled by conventional dimmer controls. Specially designed CFL bulbs will work in these locations with dimmability specified on the packaging. Some people have not been satisfied with the light quality when they're dimmed. You can purchase CFL lighting fixtures with built-in dimming ballasts and plug-in (rather than s***w-in) bulbs, along with dimming controls specially designed to match.

Too many choices, I am liking CFL more now than just a few years ago.

  2. consider low voltage alternative, snazzy appearance
