  1. It would be cheaper to stay across the bay in Dinard.  St. Malo, especially in inter-mural part ( inside the walls ) is very expensive.

Dinard is a cab ride away and it also offers a wonderful view of St. Malo.  Have a look at the website below with hotels around 40 to 50 euros per night.

If you are a swimmer, there's a fabulous natural sea pool at the beach at  St. Malo - also great beaches at Dinard!

  2. DO stay in St Malo!!! It is a marvellous place. There are very resonable hotels, Hotel Univers and Hotel Chateaubriand are just by the main entrance of Intermuros, but are cheap. They are also very ornate, old fashioned with old fashioned good service. Their resturants serve excellent food.

Chateaubriand will probably be booked up for August. I am sure the same families go every year.

We stayed at Hotel Univers last august. A lovely room with oak beam ceiling, modern facilities and shower was only 90euros. Even with the poor exchange rate we have now, it is good value. High season this year is about 100euros.

The beach is just two minutes away on foot. If you are very lucky and get in to Chateaubriand, you can be overlooking the beach.

When we first went to St Malo, we stayed in Hotel Central. Posh, but more expensive and not nearly as comfortable.

There are cheap and cheerful hotels too, especially by the rail station.

Check out St Malo hotels on the internet. The two I recommend have their own websites.

I agree that Mont St Michel is also a must! I am not sure about visiting in high season, you have to queue to get in the gate, but once you are through it is breath taking.

  3. You can search and choose hotel information, rates and availability for free in over 200 countries world wide at my profile.

  4. I got Wishcraft to arrange a holiday to a small village near Nice last year and they got me 50 % off the price of the guest house!  Try asking them.  The owner speaks French so may be able to find you a hidden gem!  It will save you the hassle of looking too!

  5. Try and search here.  I have no idea myself:

  7. Don't know if you plan to go there but Le Mont St Michel is not far from St. Malo.  I went there last summer and it was the most amazing place I've been in my life and i"ve travelled to many places.  If you can get there, go!!! You'll ove it.  We stayed at Le Mouton Blanc - it was a great hotel and was less than 100 dollars per night.

  8. I strongly recommend a simply issue-oriented site.

I'm pretty sure you can find what you need.
