Record attendance at the Waste Management Phoenix Open
The Waste Management Phoenix Open has become the most successful tournament in terms of the number of spectators present on the course.
It was the third day of the tournament at TPC Scottsdale, Arizona, where 173,210 people showed up.
It is a record. No other tournament has ever attracted so many viewers but Phoenix Open did. These numbers are for Saturday only.
This has never happened before at any Professional Golf Association's local event. This tournament is the first to attract the maximum numbers of spectators and fans to the course.
On the other hand, all the leading golfers did not play there. Had the top leading players appeared at the tournament, then the numbers of spectators would have increased even further.
Three most prominent players are: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald. All of them were in another continent, playing the European Tour event. They definitely missed the PGA event this year.
Their absence is not becoming a hurdle for the Americans to support golf in their country.
Kyle Stanley has become a renowned player after he won the Phoenix Open in an impressive style. He scored a 15-under par and 269 strokes in total. He won by a one-stroke lead over Ben Crane.
Stanley stunned all the spectators by firing tremendous birdies. He stroked 18 birdies and 2 eagles amazingly and secured the top most position on the leader board.
Crane was just a stroke behind him. He carded 17 birdies and 3 eagles. But his bogey ratio is higher than Stanley. Spencer Levin finished third by scoring a 13-under par and 271.
This four-day tournament is setting a trend now. Welcoming the huge number of spectators is a positive sign and the truth of today.
The 16th hole of the TPC Scottsdale is known as the “party hole”. This par-3 hole is also a source of attraction for all.
Covering all the aspects, there can be more reasons for such an impressive number of people present at one place.
Firstly, it can be that golf is gaining popularity. Secondly, people have free time this year and they seem to have learned how to manage their busy life.
So they can allocate some of their spare time to golf. Thirdly, the appealing weather can also be a leading factor in Arizona.
