Record partnership between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Gilchrist-c918 and Shaun Marsh helps Kings XI Punjab crush Bangalore: IPL News
KXI 232/2 20 overs RCB 121 17 overs - Punjab win by 111 runs
A stunning world record partnership between Australian pair of Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh helped Kings XI Punjab strengthen their chances of qualifying for the Last-4 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), as they thrash top of the pile, Royal Challengers
Bangalore, in Dharamsala.
The bats of Gilchrist and Marsh rained sixes and fours as the duo added a staggering 206 runs off only 96 balls to record the first ever double century partnership in the shortest format of the game. Their partnership improved the previous best alliance
recorded by another Australian pair of Justin Langer and Cameron http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 in 2006.
Gilchrist, who had looked off colour at the start of the season reminded every one why he was regarded as one of the most destructive players during his international cricket days, as he bludgeoned 9 sixes and 8 fours on his way to a 55-ball 106.
His partner Shaun Marsh was no less destructive, the left-hander struck 5 sixes and 7 fours in his unbeaten 79, that came off 49 balls. The two were in belligerent mood and showed scant respect for a team that is perched on the top of this year’s season.
The Punjab team ended up amassing 232 runs in their allotted overs, the contest was virtually over when the most destructive player of the tournament, Chris Gayle, was dismissed for a duck at the start of the Bangalore reply.
There was hardly any interest left in the game as the Royal Challengers kept losing one wicket after another in a bid of chasing a monumental total. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 top scored with 34 for the Challengers, however, his contribution was anything but significant
considering the enormity of the task at the hands of the Bangalore team.
The match ended with a lopsided win for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 in the 17th over of the innings. The victory continued a phenomenal surge for them in the last two weeks or so, they are in with a real chance of qualifying for the business end of the tournament
with the crushing win today.
