I have a Samsung DVD camcorder that I have recorded several hours of video on. I cannot play the dvd's in my DVD player, only the laptop, which defeats the purpose of recording onto DVD and popping into my dvd player and playing.

  1. If you can play the mini-DVD anywhere other than on the camcorder it's probably already been finalised.  Some DVD players are more demanding than others when it comes to meeting DVD standards - Sony are notorious for it.  It may be that your camcorder is producing slightly non-conformant DVDs.  If finalising the DVD isn't the solution, try playing the mini-DVD in another player.  The cheaper the player the more likely it is to play your DVD (cheap players use generic PC components which don't care much about standards).

  2. Maybe your DVD player is formatted to a different format of DVD

Or, if you're Brittish or something, your DVDs maybe different than that of American or any other region's DVDs

  3. 2 possibilities:

    1.  You need to finalize the disc to be compatible with the DVD player.  You must finalize the disc in the camcorder that recorded it.

    2.  If you used a DVD+R, try a DVD-R instead.  Some older DVD players have difficulty playing DVD+Rs.  If your laptop can burn (record) DVDs, you might make a copy on the other format blank disc.

  4. Stop pirating.

  5. For most, (if not all) mini DVDs recorded on camcorders, you must finalize the DVD before playing it on a DVD player. This can be done right through your camcorder. There is probably a button hidden somewhere in the menu that allows you to finalize. On may camcorder, in order to finalize a DVD, the camcorder must be plugged into the A/C adapter, and not the battery in order to finalize-- In addtion, I have to set my camcorder on a table, because it cannot shake at all when finalizing.

However, remember that once you finalize a DVD-R, you cannot overwrite that footage and record something new on that DVD. A DVD RW will allow you to unfinalize, then delete, or record more. Hope that helps!
