Recently purchased a DVD recorder. Discs record OK but will only play back on that machine. They will not play on other DVD players or on computer. Any suggestions?

  1. I have a Philips DVR that I absolutely LOVE! When I record on

a DVD I have to finalize the DVD before I can play it on any other

type of DVD player. Check your DVD recorder and manual and

look for an option to finalize the disc so it can be read in other

DVD players. That should solve your problem.

  2. I bet I know what's going on...check to see what format it's recording in...it should be either DVD+R or DVD-R. MOST machines out there are DVD-R and not DVD+R. So if your recorder is recording them in the +R, other machiens that read DVD-R only will not be able to read them. Your recorder might have a setting you can change to record in DVD-R.

  3. Make sure you "finalize" the disk before you try to use it on another player or computer. When most dvd recorders record they will let you (the machine it was recorded on) play it back without "finalizing", but you must finalize before using it elsewhere.

Read up on it in your manual or online (each maker has a slightly different way of saying the same thing), but it is fairly straight forward.
