Question:

Recording 30p, rendering 24p?

My camcorder records in 30p, and I can't find any setting which makes it record in a more "film like" 24p setting. Obviously, the HDV will be transfered to the PC for editing eventually.

The question is, will I have the same 24p effect if I were to render the movie as 24p, even if the source is 30p?

  1. no.... it'll actually mess up your footage.  24p recording is only worthwhile if you print back to actual film.

If you record in 30p then try to render and export at 24p then what happens is the footage gets choppy since you're dropping frames out of your actual footage and the computer tries to make everything flow.

Obviously film does not look choppy so unless you're planning to up-rez and print to film, shooting in 24p will not make your film look more film like.

If you want your footage to look like film, shoot film.  There's a lot more to getting the "film look" than just shooting 24 fps.

  2. No, it wont.... Sorry.
