Is it legal to record what the teacher/professor is saying in a classroom setting during class time without the said teacher/professor's consent? By 'without consent' I mean the student never asked the teacher/professor if its okay to record the lecture.
What if the teacher/professor responded 'no' when asked if one can record their lectures, and still records anyway?
This topic came up in English one day, and the teacher said that its illegal to record during class time what the teacher/professor's saying (i.e. lectures) without their consent because of what someone can do with the said recording, and that whatever (s)he says is his/her own intellectual property, despite the public setting.
NOTE: By recording lectures, I mean for my own, or classmates, educational use (i.e. re-hearing the specific part to understand the concept); NOT for profit, or any other usage.
