Recording TV Other then WM centers dvr-ms?

Question

Is there another way or option to record tv though my tv tuner so that a 30 min show doesn't take 3-4 gigs of space. Im pretty sure that WM centers dvr-ms is the reason for this and i have tried converting but everything i use just takes too much time. If anyone knows of a way around this or maybe another program i can use please let me know, Thank you.
