Recording TV with a DVD recorder & cable box...?

So I have a vcr & cable box hooked up to my tv.When I record something I have to watch what Im recording.Am I going to have the same problem if I get a dvd recorder?

  1. If you get a DVR with two input lines, then you can record 1 channel and watch another live.  Both coax cables need to be going into the DVR for this to work. This is the only way I know of doing that without watching a separate tv.


  2. It will depend on the capabilities of your tv.  But think about this....

    I would run a splitter before the cable box.  Run one into the VCR (dvd) and then to the tv.  

    Run the other cable directly to the tv, into one of the video inputs.  You then watch what you want on tv and pick what you want off the cable box.  Only thing this means is your limited to 0 - 100 for channels on your tv for the direct cable.  But better than nothing.
