Recording a t.v show using sony vhs?

i want to record the secret life of the american teenager at 8 so i bought a blank vhs. it says it holds 8 hours but what does this mean..

2 hours and 40 min in SP mode

5 hours and 20 min in LP mode

8 hours in EP mode

what are these modes?

some VCRs have different speeds to record something.

SP or Short Play only records for a max of 2h 40m, but the quality is better or best quality for the 3 choices.

LP is long play and has good quality.

EP extended play is 8 hours of recording time, but has the worst playback.  hope this helps !
