Recording in HD help please?

I am trying to record in HD on my Samsung VCR, its only 4yrs old and I use good tapes but I am not happy with the results, the hand book does not mention anything about recording in HD. Please can you tell me how to do this.

  1. You definately will not get HD on a VCR. They are designed to be recorded on other formats like Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. Reason being that HD carries an immense amount of data which is why Blu-Ray and HD-DVD have the required space to carry that data. Also, to record HD you will need a HD receiver (like Sky) and a HDMI input and VCR's will not have them.


  2. Even if you record at SP (2 hours on a T-120 tape), you won't get nearly the quality of HD.  VHS video resolution tops out a maximum 240 horizontal lines, whereas HD signals currently top out at 1080 lines.  If your recorder is S-VHS, it will record a maximum of 400 lines, still well below HD quality.

  3. VCRs don't have HD capablility for you to record, you have to use standard resolition 480i.
