Records tumble as the Dallas Mavericks down the New York Knicks' 127-109
The Dallas Mavericks racked up their season high in points as they annihilated the New York Knicks 127-109 on Thursday night. The victory snapped the three-game winning streak of the Knicks.
The Knicks had no answer to Dirk Nowitzki’s brilliance throughout the night. The German sharp-shooter erupted with a team-high 23 points in the victory. Shawn Marion had 22 points while Jason Terry came off the bench with 21 points
for the Mavericks. Rodrigue Beaubois posted 14 points while Brendan Haywood contributed 12 points for Dallas, who is at second position in the Western Conference.
Amar'e Stoudemire poured in one of his best performances of the season on the night. However, his super effort of 36 points and seven rebounds was not enough on the night. Carmelo Anthony was off colour and contributed with only
18 points and 10 rebounds. Landry Fields scored 19 points while Toney Douglas finished with 18 points for the Knicks, who have lost six of their previous ten games of the season.
Match Analysis
The Knicks got off to a fast start, using quality defense and efficient scoring to take an early 6-0 lead. However, the Mavericks got their shooting touch back late in the opening quarter as they scored 12 consecutive points while
holding the rivals scoreless for more than two minutes. Dallas took a 31-21 advantage going into the second.
The Mavericks extended their dominance to the second quarter and erupted with a season high 41-points. The Mavs led by as many as 24 points, late in the quarter, which ended with a 72-51 score line in their favour.
Trailing by 21-point at halftime, New York fought hard in the third quarter to get back into the game. However, Dallas managed to maintain a double digit lead and held a 99-85 edge at the end of the third.
The home team maintained their cushion throughout final stanza to put the frisky Knicks away.
Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said that his team was lacking the rhythm, "I just don't think we had enough energy. We came out like we have played seven games in 10 nights, but that sometimes happens. ... We were just flat at
the beginning and it got away from us."
