  1. You've lost it unless it's in C:\windows.old\

  2. I was told that System Recovery was a last resort because you'll lose all your files and should back-up first. If there is a way ,I would also like to know.

  3. Recovery only records the changes to the location of the data.

If you have defragged or done some file saves then the data you lost may well have already been overwritten.

You need to say what Operating System you are using.  Also what type of files are you trying to recover.  Text files can often be partially recovered, image files are moreproblematicc

  4. If you are talking about the reset to factory settings, it formats the hdd then re installs the OS to as it was when it was delivered. So, the only way is to undo the new formatting and copy the files to a removable storage device such as a USB stick.

  5. If you did a system recovery chances are a large portion of your files will be lost, as the previous poster said due to defragmenting the drive (restructuring).

But it never hurts to try. Have a look at a nice little program called Recuva ( http://www.recuva.com/ ) Its a free, relatively good alternative to some of the paid solutions out there e.g (R-Undelete, GetDataBack Pro)

No software will 100% guarentee to get all of your data back, but like I previously said - Never hurts to try.

Good luck and hope this helps
