Question:

Recover photos after flash card format?

by  |  earlier

My significant other accidentally formatted the 2gb Compact Flash card in our Canon Rebel digital camera with pictures still on it.

We caught it right away, so there were no pictures taken over the top of the old ones.

Does anyone have any suggestions for recovering the old photos?

Thank you very much.

  1. You can try a software named FlashMemroyMagic

    download at www.onekeysoft.com

  2. There are no guarantees for complete data recovery, but there are companies specialized in the recovery of data from memory cards, hard drives etc.

Try doing a search for memory card data recovery and you'll find software available for download.

Here is a tool from the Majorgeeks.com site which is specialized in tools for administrators and IT interested in general.

    Try the attached link.

  3. There is no way any one can recover anything AFTER it had been FORMATTED.

  4. I've used "Zero Assumption Recovery" a few times on my SD cards - it should work with all formats compatible with Windows XP or whatever.

There is a free version available for photo recovery, download it from the link below (1).

There is a comprehensive tutorial here (2). Quote:

"This tutorial describes the procedure used to recover photos stored on the digital camera memory card if:

    - the images were deleted before copying to the PC

    - the card was accidentally formatted

    - some sort of the camera failure occurred and the images are not accessible any longer"

  5. The same problem happened to me, except in my case, my pictures were basically gone for good.

A program that I had found via the internet might work for you though. There's no installation required and no catches that I know of. I've tried it already and it works great (although it does take a VERY long time - you have to be patient).
