Recovering Lost Luggage - how to find?

Pan Am Airlines lost a box that I was flying with when I moved from NY to San Diego over 10 years ago. It was a box full of old photographs and really priceless things. How could I find out where this box may have ended up? Do they keep it somewhere? Do they throw it away? Is there a number I could call? I would LOVE to get those photos and things back...please help! Thank you...

Contact both the airport you departed from and the arriving airport.  Your baggage would have been mishandled at one of the airports, not lost by the airline.  It's possible that there's a storage facility for unclaimed/undeliverable items.
