Recovery from Leukaemia: Indianapolis Colts expect coach Chuck Pagano back on 30th – NFL News
The Indianapolis Colts expect back ill coach Chuck Pagano fully recovered and on the sideline in the season’s final game versus the Houston Texans on December 30, although he made the ground for third straight time in the team’s tie against the Tennessee
Titans on past Sunday (Dec. 09).
Pagano has recently been cleared by his doctor after successfully completing final phase of chemotherapy to treat Leukaemia he was diagnosed with about a couple of months ago. The coach has remained on an indefinite leave from the team during the treatment
but has been visiting them whenever he gets an opportunity.
It is very encouraging for the team and the coach himself that he has successfully survived cancer. His team and family were really hurt at the time they heard the news of his illness exactly two and a half months earlier.
This was the high time for the coach and he was lucky that the entire Colts’ organisation had thrown their support behind him in the recovery process. The team led by rookie quarterback Andrew Luck and interim coach Bruce Arians were particularly concerned
for the coach’s health. They shaved their heads and generated funds for Leukaemia research as a sign of support for the coach.
Pagano has recently been allowed by the doctors to return to action anytime he wants and said that the final decision lies with owner Jim Irsay and the coach himself.
Meanwhile, Bruce Arians, the makeshift coach, has said that he will relieve the head coaching charge immediately after Pagano arrives to take over as a head coach. Arians who has led the Colts successfully in the head coach’s absence was almost in tears
at the time he disclosed his boss’s illness to the media. He has dedicated the team’s victories to Pagano.
The Colts under Bruce’s reign are only a game away from the playoffs this season. They have surprisingly done well by bouncing back from 2-14 season a year earlier to stand 9-4 in American Football Conference (AFC) South. Rookie QB Andrew Luck has led them
successfully from the front.
