Recovery from back injury makes available Ex-Jacksonville Jaguars QB David Garrard on free agency – NFL News
David Garrard, former Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback, is due to be available on the free agency in a month time as his agent, Albert Irby, said that his client has begun training following his recovery from a back injury.
Garrard missed the entire 2011 National Football League (NFL) season due to the back injury that he had suffered at Jaguars pre-season training camp. He required a surgery, which left him to be unavailable for the entire regular season and he has not played
or practiced since then.
Now his agent confirmed that player has recovered from the injury and with a permission from his doctors to commence training, he started doing workout, paving the way for his comeback in the market by mid March or early April this year (2012).
"David is confident that he'll be ready in four to six weeks," Irby said. "He is open to all teams and any situation that makes sense for him and the team. He will take a backup position, or a starting position. It depends on the situation."
The player was released by Jaguars before start of the past regular season, and is on free agency since then. He is now available for signing by any of his potential suitors.
He had a chance to reach a deal with any team last year. A number of teams, including the Miami Dolphins, had shown interest in his hiring. His health problems did not allow him to make a commitment and he remained without a team throughout his recovery
phase.
There are reports that the terms of deals on offer were not acceptable to him, and he decided to remain off the market during his recovery phase.
Garrard’s agent has confirmed again that a number of teams have approached him expressing their desires to pursue his client’s signing.
No deal has been reached with any of those yet, he said, once the player is available in the free agent market, his potential destination will become clear, he added.
The player has a chance to fetch a better deal from any of the teams around the league. The demand for quarterbacks is high in the market and there is a scope for him to be signed in for a starting or backup role on healthy financial terms.
In absence of Garrard, Jaguars have persisted with their rookie star, Blaine Gabbert, who, having failed at many occasions, hopes for a better form and performance under new owner, Shahid Khan, and new head coach, Mike Mularkey.
The team management has so far not spoken of anything that indicates their interest in taking Garrard back to their side after he officially reports recovery from his injury and availability in the market.
Mularkey has hoped for a better performance from the rookie, Gabbert next season, which shows that the team is satisfied with what they have at the moment for their quarterback position.
