Recovery from concussion painful time for Chicago Blackhawks’ captain Jonathan Toews-NHL News
With seven more games to go in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, the time is running out for Chicago Blackhawks’ captain, Jonathan Toews, to recover from an upper body injury to rejoin the squad this season.
Sunday’s game against Nashville Predators was his 16th consecutive miss due to the injury, which is widely speculated to be a concussion.
As of the latest comments, the player finds himself in a helpless position and apparently answerless to the question and timeline of his recovery.
He admitted to be going through most agonising time of his career and the uncertainty around his return has added to his difficulties to cope with the problem.
Toews said:
“It's probably the most frustrating thing I've been through. It's not like any other injury where you have a set timeline and you know when to get your hopes up and when you start healing up and getting ready to get back in the lineup.”
He added:
“This is a type of injury that I kind of had those hopes and those feelings that I was going to be ready not even a week into the recovery process. Here I am past a month, still waiting to see when it's going to be better, to where I was three weeks ago."
The team, in the meantime, remains silent and not speculating his return. This is probably due to the fact that the player had expressed an ambitious hope of playing against the St. Louis Blues a couple of weeks ago.
At the end, the symptoms returned and he could not join the squad. The player has been skating on and off on a regular basis. The symptoms are not going away as yet and the captain continuously remains uncertain.
Without much activity around him, the player’s temperament is seriously being tested by the recovery process. He admits it is difficult to cope with the situation.
Blackhawks are competing with the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators for the playoffs from the Central Division, and the captain’s return remains crucial to their hopes of victories in rest of their games.
His injury has come as a rare setback for the team as well as for the player himself. Toews has remained consistent in his form and fitness throughout and the latest injury turns out to be the only lowest point of his professional career.
One of the challenges that Blackhawks’ captain faces is the return of concussion symptoms. So, he remains unsure about his full fitness.
