Recovery from eye surgery: Jacksonville Jaguars DT Terrance Knighton limited in workout -NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars have decided to keep defensive tackle, Terrance Knighton, to a limited workout as the player returns from an eye surgery to take part in organised team activities (OTAs), in progress since Tuesday, May 22.
Knighton was injured while breaking up a fight between his friend and another person at a local night club a month ago. He injured his eye in the efforts and later underwent a surgery to repair the injury.
He participated in OTAs on Thursday, May 24, with a helmet on, but his workout was limited to individual activity and drills.
Jaguars’ head coach, Mike Mularkey, welcomed back the player, but said they would be cautious about his injury and recovery process, keeping him limited to lighter workout.
Mularkey was expressively surprised over the player’s recovery but insisted he was still taking “baby steps” in the process and therefore, should be kept out of the full training and workout.
The player himself noted the need of remaining conscious about the problem and moving forward in the recovery step by step. He is not keen on jumping at once.
He said:
"I really feel like I could be out there, but just taking it a step at a time."
The player was accused along with his friend of threatening to shoot people at the club and was thrown out of it.
So far, no charges have been pressed against him and he has also avoided any disciplinary action from the National Football League (NFL).
His absence raised concerns whether he was going to take a longer period of time to recover, but by showing up for the OTAs, he surprised his teammates and coaching officials.
The head coach was particularly pleased to have him back in the squad. Since this was the first ever supervised activity of Mularkey after his arrival in Jacksonville in January this year, he wants to have all players taking full part in it.
The Jags will be coming out into the 2012 NFL season with a new owner, head coach and some front office and coaching officials.
