Recovery from illness: Houston Texans hope LB Brian Cushing is in preseason opener – NFL News
The Houston Texans are hopeful of linebacker Brian Cushing’s return to the squad from a minor illness that required the player to be hospitalised until late Wednesday.
Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed all tests results came good and the illness, which the LB suffered during training camp on Tuesday, is only a minor virus attack.
Gary said:
"I would hope so. We're not going to do a whole lot in the morning. We're going to come out in shorts, and we're just kind of preparing for Carolina now, freshen them back up until Saturday. If Brian's feeling good, I'd like to see him
get his work in. As you can tell, I think he's going to be fine. If he misses tomorrow, then we'll have to re-evaluate where we're at."
He earlier confirmed the player was in hospital until late Wednesday but doing fine. He said Brian is most likely to return to practice this Thursday. The coach, however, refrained from confirming Brian’s chances for the preseason opener,
a road game against the Carolina Panthers this Saturday.
Brian’s illness comes on the heels of comeback staged by quarterback Matt Schaub, who was out of the side since November 2011 when he suffered a foot injury, and wide receiver Andre Johnson, who was out for a couple of weeks after having
an arthroscopic surgery on his knee this offseason.
The players like Brian need to be hundred percent in fitness and form to help the side meet this year’s target. Texans are coming out on the field as Super Bowl contenders this season and any setback like injury scares to their key players
can push them out of the race.
As confirmed by the coach, Cushing is expected hundred percent soon but an independent view is that virus attacks can often take a toll on short-to-mid-term health of the player who suffers from it. A player in such circumstances can quickly
lose energy and immune system strength.
There is a great optimism this is not to be the case for Texans’ Cushing and his team anticipates his early return to be a part of their preseason campaign.
